Getting Started at UAHT

The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana, often called UAHT, is a public community college serving Southwest Arkansas and the surrounding region. UAHT offers certificates, associate degrees, transfer pathways, workforce training, adult education, early college opportunities, and select bachelor’s degree partnerships.

UAHT has an open-door admissions policy designed to provide educational opportunities throughout its service area. High school graduates, GED recipients, transfer students, returning adult learners, and qualifying high school students may apply. Some programs, such as health professions, have additional admission requirements.

Complete UAHT’s free online application. Applications should be submitted during the semester before you plan to enroll. New students generally provide:

A high school transcript or proof of high school equivalency
Official transcripts from every college or university previously attended
Proof of two measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccinations when required
ACT scores or ACCUPLACER placement scores for degree-seeking enrollment when required

Degree-seeking students generally need qualifying placement scores before enrolling. UAHT accepts ACT scores and offers the ACCUPLACER exam. Contact the Testing Center at 870-722-8247 to confirm what you need and schedule testing.

Programs and Ways to Learn

UAHT offers more than 50 certificates and degrees in arts and humanities, education, business, computer and information science, cybersecurity, AI, skilled trades, health professions, nursing, criminal justice, human services, and transfer education. Popular technical fields include welding, HVAC, diesel technology, construction technology, and electromechanical technology. Explore all areas of study.

A Certificate of Proficiency is typically the shortest credential and focuses on a specific skill set. A Technical Certificate usually includes a broader group of career-focused courses. An associate degree generally requires more credit hours and may prepare students to enter the workforce or transfer toward a bachelor’s degree. Requirements vary by program. Yes. UAHT offers online courses. Many programs such as the online Associate of Arts in General Education and Funeral Service can be completed online. Course availability varies by semester and program. Review the current course schedule and talk with an advisor to build a plan that fits your goals.

UAHT partners with the University of Arkansas at Monticello to offer a Bachelor of Arts in K–6 Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the UAHT campuses. Students complete their first two years through UAHT and their upper-level coursework through UAM while remaining in the Hope-area learning environment. UAHT also offers partner programs with other four-year colelges that prepare students to trasnfer directly into bachelor's programs. Yes. UAHT provides workforce and career training for individuals and employers, including programs such as commercial truck driver training, fiber optic technician training, forklift operation, and other industry-focused courses. Visit Workforce Development for current offerings.

Yes. UAHT offers concurrent credit, collegiate academies, and secondary career and technical education opportunities for qualifying high school students. Eligibility, cost, and available courses depend on the student’s school and program. Learn more about Early College and High School programs.

Tuition, Financial Aid, and Scholarships

UAHT’s currently posted base tuition is $99 per credit hour for Hempstead County residents, $121 per credit hour for other Arkansas residents and eligible border-county residents, $164 per credit hour for out-of-state residents, and $159 per credit hour for online courses. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at StudentAid.gov and list UAHT using federal school code 005732. Complete a new FAFSA each academic year and submit any additional documents requested by the UAHT Financial Aid Office. Call 870-722-8264 for assistance.

UAHT offers institutional, Foundation, GED, transfer, and other scholarship opportunities. Eligible students may also qualify for the Hempstead Guarantee, Iron Horse Advantage, Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship, Arkansas Future Grant, and other state or private aid. Requirements and deadlines vary, so review the current scholarship page early.

Possibly. The Hempstead Guarantee can cover first-year tuition, fees, and book rentals for eligible graduates of participating Hempstead County high schools. The Iron Horse Advantage is a last-dollar program that can cover eligible first-year tuition, academic fees, and textbook rental costs for qualifying Arkansas students. The Arkansas Future Grant and Workforce Grant also pays for many UAHT classes for eligible students. Each program has specific application, income, enrollment, GPA, and deadline requirements. Textbook rental and course-material costs are separate from base tuition unless they are covered by an eligible scholarship or program. UAHT operates a low cost book-rental program for many courses. Registration, Advising, and Transfer

Start dates, registration periods, holidays, drop dates, and final-exam schedules are published on UAHT’s Academic Calendar. Always use the calendar for your specific academic year and term because dates change.

Many UAHT courses and transfer degrees are designed to transfer. The Arkansas Course Transfer System identifies courses accepted among Arkansas public colleges and universities. Transfer requirements vary, so confirm your plan with the receiving university and work with a UAHT transfer advisor before selecting courses.

Campuses and Student Services

The Hope campus is at 2500 South Main Street, Hope, Arkansas 71801. The Texarkana campus is at 3501 U of A Way, Texarkana, Arkansas 71854. The James Black School of Bladesmithing and Historic Trades is at 412 Lawrence Street, Washington, Arkansas 71862. UAHT also offers programs online, and at other instructional locations.
