The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Foundation held the 9th Annual Pulling for Education Trap shoot Saturday at the AGFC Rick Evans Grandview Shotgun Range. The competition had 44 teams, including 34 high school and junior high teams. New this year was the addition of collegiate trap teams from across Arkansas. The guest colleges included Lyon College from Batesville and the University of the Ozarks from Clarksville who gave the UAHT Iron Horses an opportunity to have a final practice competition before they attend state competition this weekend in Tillar, Arkansas, and then compete at nationals later this month in San Antonio, Texas. Lyon College won Saturday’s the collegiate flight by shooting a 479 out of a possible 500.
The junior high competition was sponsored by Alliance Insurance and dominated by Ashdown School teams who won first by shooting a 101 out of 125 and second by shooting a 95 out of 125. Magnolia’s Junior High team placed third, shooting 91 out of 125. In the senior high division, sponsored by BancorpSouth, Ashdown team members Logan Henry, J.M. Molock, Drake Hile, Koda Aylor, and Trevor Meyers won first, shooting a 237 out of 250, with two of Texarkana’s teams winning second by shooting 225 and third place with a 222. The second place team included members Ondrea Green, Elena Knotts, Justice Holtom, Kelsiy Petross, and Zack Henry. The third place team included Kaleb Petross, Jonah Rathburn, Dylan Adams, Mason May, and Tyler Sherman. Finally, the Community Team Flight was won by Bar 3 from Texarkana, shooting a 138 out of 150. Second place went to South Ark Electric who shot a 134 out of 150; and third place was awarded to SWEPCO with a score of 132 out of 150.
The “Pulling” for Education Trap shoot was hosted by State Senator Larry Teague and Representative Brent Talley. Sponsors for the event included AEP-SWEPCO and Arkansas Farm Bureau, who have helped with the event all nine years. A special thank you to Farm Credit Services and managers Jerry Nance, Clay Lance, Randy Coulson, and Shaun McKamie for providing lunch for the contestants. The “Pulling” for Education Trap Shoot is a fundraiser for the UAHT Foundation. The funds raised will assist the UAHT Iron Horse Shooting Sports Teams with travel and competition expenses.
