November and December Classes:

Family Caregiver Training-

UACCH is pleased to partner with the Texarkana Regional Center on Aging to bring you a series of free workshops on caring for your older family member in your home. Workshop dates will be Monday through Thursday, November 14-17 from 12:30 to 4:30 pm. The four workshops will cover two different topics: one topic will be on the physical skills of caring for the older adult, and the other on caring for a person with Alzheimer’s/Dementia. The training combines content from a number of sources including standards and guidelines from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The goal of the family caregiver workshops is to introduce family caregivers to basic caregiving skills needed to provide quality care for an aging family member. Participants should attend all four nights.

1.       Physical Skills
The first two nights of the workshop will focus on Physical Skills such as infection control, skin care, incontinence management, nutrition, body mechanics, mobility, caregiver stress, safety, and activities of daily living.

2.       Caring for the Person with Dementia
The last two-nights of the workshop present an overview of Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, communication techniques, understanding behaviors, activities, nutrition and hydration, caregiver stress and maintaining respect, dignity, and quality of life.

The class is free, but does require pre-registration. To register, contact Nancy Kenworthy at 870-722-8102 or .
