The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope Foundation has been awarded a $33,000 grant from the Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas.  The grant will help fund the New Life Education Project in the health professions department at the College.  The Project New Life Education will purchase a Noelle S575 mannequin with birthing suite to be used by 300 Health Professions students representing Hempstead, Columbia, Clark, Union, Little River, Miller, Lafayette, Nevada, Pike, Sevier, and Howard Counties.

The Blue & You Foundation Grants are awarded to programs across the state that address such issues as nutrition and exercise, dental and mental health, and medical professional education.  Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield established the Blue &You Foundation in 2001 as a charitable foundation to promote better health in Arkansas.  The Blue & You Foundation awards grants annually to non-profit or governmental organizations and programs that positively affect the health of Arkansans.

These grant funds will allow UACCH to expand its simulation lab to include the Noelle Birthing Suite.  This suite will provide clinical birthing simulations for the students. The use of computerized patient simulated mannequins has greatly enhanced the clinical experience for students. This simulation equipment allows students to practice and improve patient care and decision making skills utilizing a realistic patient and hospital environment. The ability to generate patient conditions and to adjust these based on the students intervention is an invaluable critical thinking tool.
