The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope-Texarkana Shooting Sports Club has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc., to support the recently formed shooting sports club on the U of A Hope-Texarkana Campuses.
The funds from this grant will be used to reduce the ongoing expenses of the club. Chris and Sondra Townsend wrote the grant proposal for the club and have played a key role in the continued development of this new sport on the U of A Hope-Texarkana Campuses. The Townsends are very active in shooting sports. Sondra is a member of the College’s Business Department faculty and teaches on both the Hope and Texarkana campuses, and Chris is co-owner of South Ark Electric in Hope.
Brent Talley, Shooting Sports Club Advisor said, “ Chris and Sondra Townsend’s expertise and enthusiasm for the sport has helped bring students from both campuses together to enjoy this sport and expand their positive experience at U of A Hope and Texarkana. Being awarded this grant exemplifies the benefit and importance of the College’s community partners to its continued success.”
The National Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc., is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. Formed in 1961, NSSF has a membership of more than 10,000 manufacturers, distributors, firearms retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen’s organizations and publishers.
