The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope and Texarkana is pleased to announce that Laura Clark has been selected as the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Clark has been a dedicated member of the UACCH team for twenty years. She currently serves as Dean for Health Professions and interim Dean for Math and Sciences. Prior and during this appointment she served as Practical Nursing Program Director, ARNEC Program Chair, C.N.A. Program Chair, and full time PN instructor at both Hope and Murfreesboro. Clark began her career in nursing by working as an emergency room and critical care nurse at Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, AR., and, as a Pediatric ICU nurse at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
Her employment at UACCH began as the sole instructor for a temporary Practical Nursing program in Murfreesboro. As instructor, she taught all coursework and oversaw all clinical rotations for the program. As a first time instructor, she was successful in graduating these students with 90% retention and a licensure for nursing exam pass rate of 100%.
As Dean of Health Professions, Clark worked with interested community leaders to reactivate the Paramedic program and to offer the first AAS Paramedic Degree at UACCH. With her work and leadership, UACCH began the AAS Paramedic program in 2008 and received full accreditation in the spring of 2009. The program continues to strengthen and to develop into a quality program with positive outcomes. She has also had a key role in UACCH’s joining the Arkansas Rural Nursing Education Consortium (ARNEC), LPN to RN – AAS Degree. As Dean, she did double duty by serving as Program Chair during the first two years of the program. This position allowed her to work with seven other Arkansas community colleges while collaborating and growing the program to its potential.
These are just of few of the many accomplishments she has completed as Dean of Health Professions at UACCH. Clark has a good understanding of the challenges that students face and she desires to help UACCH do the best it can to help students achieve their educational goals.
Chancellor Chris Thomason said the following about Clark’s selection as Vice-Chancellor of Academics, “Laura Clark’s commitment to our students and our mission has made our campus a better place.
