The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope is pleased to announce that the Hope-Hempstead County Business and Professional Woman’s Club has established an endowed scholarship for a student pursuing a degree in vocational or professional studies. This $17,000 gift from the Hope-Hempstead County B & PW Club will allow the work this club has done for so many years, in assisting with educational needs of its members, to continue for generations through an endowed scholarship.

Chancellor Chris Thomason had the following comments about this new endowment at UACCH. Chancellor Thomason said, “The wonderful ladies of the Hope-Hempstead County B&PW have been dedicated for over 80 years to providing educational opportunities to generations of Hempstead County residents. They have exhibited that commitment through their tireless efforts in community fundraising and unending focus on their educational mission. Their success will always be measured by the lives they have changed instead of dollars raised. UACCH will always ensure that this endowment will be managed in the same spirit that the B&PW Club has served our community for so many years.”

During the signing ceremony, Norma Jean Delaney, who has been active in the club for over 50 years– gave a brief history of the club. She shared a list of fundraisers the club had completed over the years. It was obvious from her recollection of the club’s activities that many long hours had been invested to raise funds for activities like the establishment of this scholarship.

UACCH is honored to be able to now manage this scholarship through the UACCH Foundation. The Foundation is pleased that clubs and organizations understand the value of removing financial barriers to higher education through scholarships like the Lenora Routon Cross Endowed Scholarship, which was established with this donation. The Club also established an annual scholarship that will be awarded starting this Fall Semester at UACCH. This annual scholarship will continue to be awarded until the endowed funds have grown to the point of being able to fund the scholarship.
